The Historical Acting Summer Academy
The Summer School for Historical Acting gives students the chance to learn the basic techniques of acting from the long eighteenth century.
The Historical Acting Summer Academy, taught by historical actor Jed Wentz, gives students the chance to focus on the basic techniques of acting 1750-1850.
The daily group classes will focus on learning how to work effectively with original sources, so that students will be empowered to continue on their own after the course has finished.
For whom
This intensive 3-day workshop for a small group of students offers a rigorous introduction to the basics of 18th-century stagecraft. A selection process will take place once applications have been received based on available places and student motivation.
Accepted students may also opt to stay on in Leiden after the 3-day course has finished, in order to audit the annual meeting of the Dutch Historical Acting Collective (DHAC) from 1 to 6 August 2023. Students will undoubtedly be able to benefit from observing how DHAC members work together and coach one another in monologues, dialogues and melodramas, in order to refine their use of historical techniques.
