With a master’s degree in Science in Statistical Sciences job perspectives are great: statisticians are highly sought after in various industries such as academia, marketing, banking, government, official statistics, healthcare, bioinformatics and more.
Acquired skills and competence
You will gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of statistical models, especially in relation to Data Science, including their application and interpretation in a broad range of empirical research. You are able to critically study scientific research and develop new models and techniques. You will learn practical skills such as statistical programming, statistical consultation, data base management and written and oral presentation of analysis and research results. After graduation you will be able to advise substantive researchers on methodological and statistical issues, and many graduates will be expected to continue in a PhD programme.
Career
There is a large demand for applied statisticians at both the master’s and the PhD level. Our alumni find jobs in a wide range of areas, such as academic medical hospitals, many types of industry (pharmaceutical, agricultural, food, life science in general, oil, etc.), research institutes, financial institutions, government statistics bureaus, educational services (CITO), marketing bureaus. In view of the emphasis on statistics as a science, rather than as merely a collection of techniques, many graduates will qualify for a PhD programme as well.
