Philippe van Gruisen is an Associate Professor at Leiden University's Department of Economics. In his research and teaching, he mainly focuses on the political economy of the European Union. He also coordinates the bachelor's programme in Economics, Public Administration and Management.

Philippe defended his dissertation entitled 'The Political Economy of Decision-Making in the Council of the European Union' at the KU Leuven back in 2018. The following year, his dissertation was nominated for the Els Witte Prize.
