Transformations in global climate finance

Full title

Transformations in global climate finance: Emerging climate finance institutions beyond multilateral development banks

Project description

Climate finance, especially for developing countries, is crucial for limiting global warming to 1.5C. However, the current level of North -South climate finance is chronically inadequate.  As the climate crisis intensifies, more actors are entering the climate finance market, transforming the global climate finance landscape.
This project aims to map the global climate finance landscape since 2015. It focuses on a group of new climate financing organizations featuring selected climate goals, mini-lateral membership with a mix of public and private contributors, close relationship with the UN, and strong accountability and transparency mechanisms. By identifying and explaining the origin and evolution of these organizations, this project aims to understand their role in global finance organization and implications to climate mitigation and justice.
