Leiden University Strengthens Collaboration and Partnerships with Institut Teknologi Bandung
Rector of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, accompanied by Dr. Endra Gunawan, Director of Partnerships, visited Leiden University on 23 April 2026. The delegation was welcomed by the President of the Executive Board, Prof. Luc Sels.
During the visit, ITB and Leiden University agreed to a Joint PhD program collaboration. The collaboration document was signed by the ITB Rector and Leiden University Rector Prof. Sarah de Rijcke.
The ITB delegation also held discussions with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Jasper Knoester, and several professors. Also present and giving presentations were Prof. Erik Danen from the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research, Dean of the Graduate School of Science, and Prof. Gianne Derks, Scientific Director of the Mathematical Institute. Previously, a Faculty of Science delegation visited Bandung in June 2025 to explore collaboration opportunities with several faculties and schools at ITB.
Following up this collaboration, Prof. Erik Danen visited ITB on 2 June 2026 and gave lectures on “PhD in the Faculty of Science” and “Drug Discovery”. In addition, he held one-on-one session for prospective PhD students and attracted 16 participants from pharmacy, life science and technology, chemistry, and computer science.
This year, the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan or LPDP) has officially released the list of international universities and study programs which are eligible to receive scholarship funding. This funding is also available for 39 PhD candidacies for Leiden University, of which 12 programs are in the Faculty of Science.
