LUMC Delegation Explores Collaboration Opportunities in Indonesia

The delegation from Leiden University Medical Center, led by Dean Marlies Reinders, visited Surabaya, Makassar, and Jakarta in October 2025 to explore opportunities for research and academic cooperation. This visit marks an important step in strengthening international ties and fostering long-term collaboration between LUMC with the medical faculties of Airlangga University, Hasanuddin University, Universitas Indonesia, and Atma Jaya Catholic University. The representatives of the Office of Leiden University in Indonesia were involved in the process of preparing the visit, coordinating with partners, and assisting the delegation during the activities in Makassar, Surabaya, and Jakarta.

Delegation Program

The programme included meetings and discussions with the leaderships of universities and faculties, faculty and hospital tours, and lectures delivered by delegation members on their areas of expertise. Prof. Dr. Marc Bruijnzeels and Dr. Martijn Sijbom delivered a well-attended lecture on population health management, Dr. Peter de Jonge gave a lecture on the use of AI in health professions education, and Prof. Dr. Jacobijn Gussekloo and Dr. Yvonne Drewes offered a lecture on health and ageing society. 

Discussions with the Ministry of Health of Indonesia

Discussions with the Ministry of Health of Indonesia focused on collaborative efforts in four major disease areas: cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and uronephrology. They also addressed the development of medical fellowship programs in the Netherlands.
