Tommy van Steen is Associate Professor in the Cybersecurity Governance group specialising in organisational and behavioural cybersecurity.
In December 2018 he joined the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University where he teaches bachelor and master courses and conducts research ond the organisational and behavioural aspects of cybersecurity. Using a variety of (quantitative) research methods, Tommy van Steen investigates how to understand, influence, and improve cybersecurity behaviours of end-users and organisations.
In 2025 he received funding from the NWO for a programme on 'what works well?'. This programme is a collaboration with partners in the field to understand better what organisations can learn from success instead of only focusing on learning from incidents.
