More information about Renske Krijt

Renske Krijt is a PhD candidate within the FIT-HEART consortium and is affiliated with the Department of Health, Medical, and Neuropsychology at Leiden University. She investigates how patients with cardiovascular disease can effectively maintain regular physical activity and how digital interventions can support an active lifestyle, with a special focus on women with cardiovascular diseases.

Her research is part of FIT-HEART, a national research consortium funded by the Dutch Heart Foundation, which explores how heart patients can stay active safely and sustainably, and when intensive exercise may pose risks to heart health. The ultimate goal is to provide targeted, sustainable guidance and personalized recommendations.

With her background in neuropsychology, Renske combines clinical and scientific expertise in a transdisciplinary approach. Together with patients, healthcare professionals, and eHealth developers, she works on digital interventions that encourage physical activity in children with congenital heart defects, adults with coronary artery disease, and women who have experienced hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Her research focuses on how social support and the social context can be leveraged to promote an active lifestyle and make interventions motivating, feasible, and sustainable.

Within her PhD research, Renske places a special emphasis on women with cardiovascular disease. She investigates their specific needs and challenges and develops physical activity interventions that fit into everyday life, aiming to improve their health, self-management, and mental well-being.
