I was born in Caracas (Venezuela) in 1984 and studied Chemistry at Simón Bolívar University (Caracas) in the period 2001-2007. In order to obtain my bachelor, I had to present a thesis, which was devoted to detection and quantifying of heavy metals in environmental samples using electroanalytical techniques (stripping analysis). I made MSc in Chemistry at USB in the period 2008-2011 and worked in the electrochemistry group of that university under supervision of Prof. Benjamin Scharifker. My master thesis was devoted to study electrochemical phase formation of bimetallic alloys in underpotential and overpotential conditions, developing a theoretical model to describe the formation of 3D bimetallic alloys under diffusional conditions. During my master studies I was doing an internship in the Institute of Physical Chemistry “Rocasolano” (Madrid) under supervision of Dr. Angel Cuesta, during that period I made potential modulated spectroscopy (electroreflectance) to study alloy formation through underpotential deposition and rotational anisotropy of electroreflectance.
I started my PhD at CASC group in Leiden University under supervision of Prof. Marc Koper in June 2011. My research will be devoted to study the oxygen evolution reaction; I will be interested to detect the intermediaries involved in the reaction to give experimental support to the mechanisms that have been proposed in the literature. Our ideas are getting fundamental insight of the process that helps us for designing an efficient device for water splitting.
