Koen Rijpkema studied Chemistry at Leiden University, specializing in Organic Chemistry. He subsequently became a PhD candidate at the Bio-Organic Synthesis group where he designed and synthesized structural analogues of adenosine diphosphate ribose as competitive inhibitors for viral hydrolases. He is currently an analyst at the Bio-Organic Synthesis group.
