Joop Schaye is a Full Professor at Leiden University. His research focuses on the formation of galaxies and the intergalactic medium (IGM).

Joop Schaye became an Assistant Professor at the Leiden Observatory in 2005 and became an Associate Professor in 2007. Since 2011 he is a Full Professor of the Formation of Galaxies.

His research focuses on the formation of galaxies and the intergalactic medium (IGM). He works on hydrodynamical simulations and observations of the circumgalactic medium. Schaye is also involved in the EAGLE project. The EAGLE project is a campaign of large-scale hydrodynamical simulations of the Lambda-Cold Dark Matter universe, run by the Virgo Consortium. The chief aim of the project is to examine the formation of galaxies and their co-evolution with their gaseous environments.
