Esther Huiskers-Stoop has been affiliated with the Tax Law Department of the Institute for Tax and Economics since 2016. She is coordinator and lecturer of the academic courses Formal Tax Law, Moot Court Tax Law and ‘Student hearings at the Tax Chamber’ in the context of the covenant between Leiden University and the District Court of The Hague. She is also deputy head of the department and deputy coordinator of the research programme ‘Limits of Fiscal Sovereignty’. She conducts research on Promoting Tax Compliance. The focus here is particularly on the area of (i) voluntary provision of tax-relevant information by taxpayers (including the dynamics of trust, Cooperative Compliance and horizontal tax monitoring), (ii) information gathering in the environment of taxpayers and the safeguarding of fundamental rights (including the standard of Foreseeable Relevance, privacy enhanced tax information exchange and data protection) and (iii) legal protection of taxpayers against government action (including tax administrative procedural law and interpretation of tax legislation).
