Elseline Hoekzema is a postdoctoral researcher in the unit Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
“Research is only now uncovering the dramatic impact of pregnancy and the associated hormone flood on the human brain”
Elseline Hoekzema is a postdoctoral researcher at the unit Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
She obtained her Master’s degree in Neuroscience as well as an advanced Master’s degree in Cellular Biology. In 2011, she received her PhD degree in Neuroscience for her studies on fronto-cerebellar morphology and activity and treatment-related brain plasticity in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. During this period, she also examined other types of brain changes, by investigating the effects of aging on neurotransmitter systems in rats and the effects of pregnancy on human brain morphology. After her PhD, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Neuroendocrinology section of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. In 2014, she was awarded a Veni grant by NWO to continue investigating the effects of pregnancy on the human brain, and she joined the Brain and Development Lab of Professor Eveline Crone to perform these studies.
