Leiden PhD team in finals international pharmacological competition
Bas Goulooze graduated cum laude from the Leiden University in 2016, with a MSc degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences. As a master student, he performed pharmacometric research internships at the clinical research organization CHDR in Leiden and the department of Clinical Pharmacology of the University of Newcastle in Australia. At the CHDR, he continued to work after his internship as a pharmacometric research assistant on different projects.
Bas Goulooze currently works as a PhD student at the Cluster of Systems Pharmacology at the Leiden University. The research project involves the characterization of the concentration-effect relationship of post-operative analgesia in different patient populations including children. Within these models, we aim to identify covariates that are predictive of the inter-individual differences in the need for post-operative analgesia. These covariates might be found among patient characteristics (age, sex, disease history, etc.) and/or in metabolomic profiles of the patients. The identification of these covariates is relevant for the clinic, as they have the potential to guide individualized dosing of analgesics in clinical practice. For this project there is a close collaboration between expertise from the departments of Pharmacology (Catherijne Knibbe and Piet Hein van der Graaf) and of Analytical BioSciences (Metabolomics, Thomas Hankemeier), with the Sophia Children’s Hospital (Erasmus MC, professor Dick Tibboel). The PhD project is supervised by professor Catherijne Knibbe, professor Thomas Hankemeier and assistant professor Elke Krekels.
