Since 1 September 2017, Anne Aagten has been working as a Teaching and Research Staff Member at the Institute of Immigration Law.
Anne Aagten has been working as a Teaching and Research Staff Member at the Institute of Immigration Law since 1 September 2017.
Anne obtained an LL.B. degree in International and European Law from the University of Groningen. During her studies she volunteered at the Department for Family Reunification of the Dutch Council for Refugees. In 2017, she received an LL.M. degree in Public International Law from Leiden University. Her thesis considered whether individuals involved in migrant smuggling in the Mediterranean must be excluded from refugee status under Article 1F of the Refugee Convention. During her master’s programme, Anne interned at Everaert Immigration Lawyers and at the International Law Division of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also spent a period studying in Switzerland to specialize further in (international and European) refugee and asylum law. In the summer of 2018, she worked with the NGO Advocates Abroad on the island of Leros, Greece, where she provided legal assistance to asylum seekers.
Teaching
Anne is involved as a teacher in several courses offered by the Institute of Immigration Law in the bachelor and master programmes, including European Asylum Law, Immigratierecht and Migration Law and Policy in de EU. She also supervises bachelor and master theses.
