While Quantum Computers promise unparallelled computational power, their physical realization is still very limited. By combining parallelism in classical computers with small quantum computers and by applying these techniques in collaboration with industrial partners, the researchers will both mitigate technological limitations and prepare the Dutch society for its quantum future.

The first quantum computers have demonstrated performance far beyond the capabilities of classical computers. Now is the time to convert this computing power into useful applications for Dutch society. The researchers of the Divide & Quantum consortium will tackle this challenge from two sides. First, they will collect socially relevant computational problems together with partners from business, TNO and universities of applied sciences. Second, they will conduct fundamental research into new quantum algorithms to solve these problems with a combination of quantum and classical computers. This approach offers the best guarantee of achieving a first useful application of quantum computers.
