Call for applications PhD Research Workshop: Working towards an interdisciplinary approach in the research of social citizenship, migration, and belonging

The interdisciplinary research programme Social Citizenship & Migration welcomes applications for a PhD workshop on interdisciplinarity in the fields of social citizenship, migration and belonging to be held in Leiden on Friday 6 October 2023.

Interdisciplinarity is fundamental to the understanding and study of social phenomena, as it allows for a more holistic problematisation. However, achieving this approach is particularly difficult in individual studies, so this workshop aims to create a space to reflect on these challenges. By working in pairs, students will be able to discuss and share experiences on how they each approach their research topic from the different disciplinary approaches of their PhD. Students will reflect on how their own conceptual frameworks and methods of data collection and analysis are interdisciplinary or could embrace interdisciplinarity. Furthermore, as collaboration is also essential for interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinary research, this workshop will also serve as a networking space for early career scholars at Leiden University working in the fields of social citizenship, migration, and belonging.

Participation

This workshop is open to PhD students from all disciplines at Leiden University who are working in the broader fields of social citizenship, migration, and belonging and who are interested in a collaborative interdisciplinary dialogue.
Students are invited to submit an extended abstract (maximum one page) of their research project, highlighting their conceptual or theoretical framework, methods of data collection, and data analysis.

Proposals should be sent to Dr. Amalia Campos-Delgado (a.e.campos.delgado@law.leidenuniv.nl) by 29 September 2023. Due to the nature of the workshop, space will be limited to 12 places.
