VVI-teams present policy briefs to Indonesian Ombudsman offices in three regions
From 14-22 January the VVI research teams in the Indonesian Ombudsman Project presented three policy briefs to the Ombudsman branch offices in North Sumatra, East Kalimantan and West Nusa Tenggara.
For this purpose project leader Adriaan Bedner travelled to Indonesia, after having prepared the briefs together with the local research teams. The policy briefs contained the main findings of the research conducted by the VVI and a number of recommendations. The latter were well received by the heads of office, who requested continued feed back and discussion about their implementation.
In order to locally promote the Ombudsman, Adriaan Bedner gave guest lectures at the University of North Sumatra, The University of Balikpapan, and the University of Mataram. These universities have now all signed agreements with the local Ombudsman offices to facilitate internships for students.
The VVI-research was conducted in the framework of a two-year co-operation project between the Indonesian, the Dutch Ombudsman, and the VVI called: ‘Enhancing citizen protection against improper behaviour by the administration / the government: Reinforcing the work and position of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia.’
