Liesbeth van der Heijde about the impact of the open society on your security

Liesbeth van der Heide, Researcher / Lecturer at the Institute for Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), and Krishna Taneja, Director National Security TNO, have been interviewed by Securitas about new forms of security, big data and society. "We do so much with our phone, that you can follow everyone 24/7."

Van der Heide and Taneja give insight into the consequences of the enormous flow of data within the public domain. According to Van der Heide, the asymmetrical balance of power between the three main parties: the government, business and the citizen is notable. In here, The citizen has the least insight into what happens to data and therefore wonders who is responsible for all these data.

Responsibility

Van der Heide and Taneja discuss how the security industry can anticipate to the increased fear of terrorism through the blurring of borders and the dissemination of information. But also what the role of the citizen, government and business should be in the prevention of (terrorist) attacks. According to Van der Heide, signaling and reporting abnormal behavior can already make a major contribution: "Keep in mind: where is my own responsibility?"
