During this event, you will attend a lecture from the course Law and Security, taught by Dr. Dr. J. Matthys. This will give you a clear impression of whether the programme matches your interests and if it could be the right choice for you.

One of our student ambassadors will welcome you at our Wijnhaven building and share first-hand insights about the programme and studying in The Hague. You will also have plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Get a taste of Security Studies, take part in the Student for a Day event!

If you decide to join this Student for a Day event, you will:

  • attend the lecture 'Prosecuting War Crimes' of the course 'Law and Security'
  • meet current students;
  • have the chance to ask all your questions about this programme and student life;
  • get a tour of the faculty building.

It’s an ideal opportunity to get to know the BSc Security Studies even better.

About the course 'Law and Security'

Security and (international) law are interlinked. Terrorism, cyberattacks, military interventions, cross border criminality - all entail a reaction by states and have the potential to redefine the relationship between government and society. In addition, new technological breakthroughs enable security measures to become more refined and commonplace, but also lead to ethical questions. The rule of law offers a framework in which citizens and government can agree on rules, so that government can play its role legitimately and predictably.

The central theme in this course is the dilemma that government faces more often: the dichotomy between providing security while respecting civil, social and human rights. Read more
