UPDATE: Printing not possible

Due to a malfunction, it is currently not possible to print or create pdf files. To fix this interruption we are dependent on a Microsoft update. We are currently looking for a workaround.

Due to stricter security settings by Microsoft, the connection of printers to a Windows workstation is limited. Printing is guaranteed on the UFB Canon printer (LU-Card) environment. For the other printers, we cannot guarantee correct operation at this time. If you work at a location where there is no UFB Canon printer available, please contact the helpdesk.

As announced last week, printing from the workstations has been open to all users since last Friday. Users do not have to fill in a request to be able to print.


Citrix printing is still switched off, this week the patching of these servers is finished and printing will be switched on here as well.


What remains is the issue that no new printer can be added because the users do not have sufficient rights to install the printer driver.
Unfortunately, this is part of Microsoft's security, only an administrator with full rights can install a new printer driver on a workstation.
As soon as a secure solution is known, there will be another update.

Today we received the first communication about the patches that will be available next Tuesday evening. The hope was that this communication would give us enough direction to estimate whether there will be a solution for the printer issue next week.

 

Unfortunately, this communication does not yet give us enough direction to estimate anything. Only on Tuesday evening we will have more detailed information. Next Wednesday we hope to have more information.

There is no prospect of a solution from Microsoft yet and we realize that not being able to print or create pdf is going to cause disruption in some cases. For users who urgently need to be able to print from a workstation, the following option is now available:

- Users who wish to print to Lu-Card Multifunctionals at their workstation can request this through the Helpdesk (8888).  
The option to print will then be enabled at the workstation. It may take an hour for this adjustment to become active.
- The print server for the Lu-Card Multifunctionals is open daily from 07:00 - 18:00, printing is not possible outside these hours.

We ask you to be cautious with this possibility and only in urgent cases to send a request to open up the Lu-Card Multifunctionals printer. Opening up printing from a workstation is not tied to the users of the workstation, so anyone who logs into that workstation can print.

Because we are dependent on an update from Microsoft, problem "P2107 0001" has been created.
When we are offered a structural solution, this problem will be closed.

At this time, we are still waiting for an update from Microsoft to resolve the issue surrounding printing.

We hope to have more information from Microsoft soon.

Printing is still not possible via network, Lu-Card or local printers. Also, it is not yet possible to create PDFs (with the print as pdf option). As soon as there is a solution from Microsoft we will analyze and implement it.
Word does allow creating pdf files and many Lu-Card printers allow printing from USB flash drives.
