Cursusbeschrijving

The Croatian 5 course is intended for participants who already have some knowledge of Croatian and/or have followed the Croatian 4 course. In this course we look at the noun case system as a whole, including all the prepositions. We will learn the final new case, the genitive, and will also cover ordinal numbers and expressions of time and quantity. We will read a mini-novel at A1-A2 language level, under supervision. The following topics will also be addressed: asking the way, the layout of a house, writing a card, and parts of the body. The grammar needed for this will be explained and ample attention will be paid to vocabulary. All the relevant skills will be covered: speaking, writing, reading and listening. The emphasis in the course will be on communicating in Croatian in everyday situations. Attention will also be paid to the cultural context, history, and geography of Croatia.

Having followed this course, participants are able to use some familiar everyday expressions and basic sentences. You will be able to introduce yourself and ask and answer questions about  personal data. You will be able to give a simple answer, assuming the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.

Course participants are expected to prepare the lessons at home (approximately three hours per lesson).

The course is concluded with a test. A certificate is awarded if the test is completed successfully and the participant has attended 80% of the lessons. If you will be absent for more lessons, please contact your teacher or  talencentrum@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
