On May 20th, Joost de Moor took part in a panel that examined what is (not) unique about the recent waves of climate mobilization, as well as the question of engagement with or opposition to formal global sustainability governance institutions.

We are excited to announce the Just Peace Festival, a vibrant platform for dialogue, collaboration, and action on the pressing global challenges of peace and justice! The festival is the culmination of The Hague’s Road to Summit programme and is a collaborative initiative founded by The Hague Humanity Hub, Leiden University and the Municipality of The Hague.

In 2025, GTGC co-organised with the City of The Hague and the Hague Humanity Hub a Just Peace Festival, a vibrant platform on the pressing global challenges of peace with justice. The festival involved a wide range of different activities, including dialogues, exhibitions, performances, film evenings, tours, awards, and more. GTGC took the lead in convening seven Just Peace Dialogues that together involved 40 panellists and over 500 participants.

This was the fourth panel of the Just Peace Dialogues.

What is the relationship between democracy and peace? Do the two go hand in hand, so that less democracy means less peace? Or can democracy work against peace: for example, by producing protectionist and militarist governments? Or is there something more deeply wrong with democracy as we know it, such that future peace depends on a transformation of democracy? If so, what kind of new democracy do we need? During this Just Peace Dialogue speakers dove into these questions and many more.
