What will you study?

Explore major themes in U.S. history, culture and politics

You will examine major themes in U.S. history, politics, culture, and literature, exploring how they shape and inform contemporary debates. Issues such as migration, ethnicity, human rights, international relations, and cultural memory form core components of the curriculum.

Develop strong analytical and research skills

You will work closely with primary sources, including historical documents, literary texts, films, archives, and political material. You will participate in research seminars that strengthen your analytical and methodological skills. Your studies culminate in an independently researched MA thesis, supported by a thesis seminar and personal supervision.

Gain real‑world experience through internship or study abroad

You may also choose to complete an internship (for example at the Roosevelt Institute of American Studies in Middelburg or at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate) or pursue a semester abroad at a partner university in the U.S. or Canada.
