EIBL alumna Suzanne Kingston appointed judge of the General Court of the European Union
Suzanne Kingston will be officially sworn in mid-January. She graduated from the Leiden Advanced LLM European and International Business Law (EIBL) in 2000.
The Court of Justice of the European Union consists of two courts: the Court of Justice and the General Court. The judges and advocates-general are appointed by the governments of the Member States after consultation with a panel responsible for giving an opinion on prospective candidates' suitability. The Court of Justice of the European Union is seated in Luxembourg.
After her graduation from EIBL, Kingston completed her PhD in Leiden under the supervision of Prof. Piet Jan Slot, on the subject: “The role of environmental protection in EC competition law and policy”.
Kingston was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1999 and the Irish bar in 2007. Since 2007, Kingston has been working at the University College Dublin. Since 2015, she has led a major European Research Council project which will shortly be reaching a conclusion. She became a senior counsel in Ireland in 2020.
