Anne Meeussen wins Young Speakers' Contest
Anne Meeussen is the winner of the Fysica 2020 Young Speakers' Contest. She was elected by the online attendants after delivering a talk about metamaterials.
The contest was part of the first online edition of Fysica, the annual physics meeting in the Netherlands. Meeussen's talk, 'The peculiar effect of a small error' describes how small, topological, changes in a metamaterial can change its overall properties.
Earlier, Meeussen and members of Martin van Heckes group published about the research in Nature Physics, and a video explanation about it has been viewed more than 10,000 times.
Meeussen said she was proud of receiving the award. She assured the 557 online attendance that prize money, 750 euros, will go to a worthy cause, 'which is not my own bank account.'
