To mark the official launch of the network, Maartje Janse and Peter Stamatov have organized a roundtable on Global Abolitionisms at the Annual Meeting of the Social Science Historical Association, November 2015 in Baltimore.

To mark the official launch of the network, Maartje Janse and Peter Stamatov have organized a roundtable on Global Abolitionisms at the Annual Meeting of the Social Science Historical Association, November 2015 in Baltimore. Other discussants include Seymour Drescher, University of Pittsburgh; Angela Alonso, University of São Paulo; Kevin Grant, Hamilton College; Jonathan Sassi, College of Staten Island/CUNY Graduate Center and John Oldfield, University of Hull/Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation. From the SSHA conference schedule: "The session brings together prominent scholars to discuss a new and broader transnational and interdisciplinary framework integrating the critical mass of research on national movements for the abolition of slavery between the late eighteenth century and the post-WW world. Balancing the traditional prominence on Anglo-American antislavery with attention to other national cases (e.g., Brazil and the Netherlands) and exploring the continuities between "classical" antislavery and later mobilizations against forced labor, the session will address the opportunities and challenges of studying these movements both comparatively and in their transnational interconnectedness." The organizers plan to offer the proceedings of the roundtable to a scholarly journal for publication.
