Paul Brakefield, hoogleraar evolutiebiologie van het Instituut Biologie Leiden (IBL), heeft een ERC Advanced Grant ontvangen voor zijn onderzoek. Hij krijgt 2,5 miljoen euro om in een periode van vijf jaar zijn onderzoeksprogramma verder uit te bouwen.

Het College van Bestuur heeft prof.dr. Harold Linnartz per 1 juni 2011 benoemd tot hoogleraar Laboratorium Astrofysica. Linnartz werkt sinds 2005 als universitair hoofddocent bij de Sterrewacht Leiden.
