The Graduate School of Legal Studies of Leiden Law School has a vacancy for a Meijers PhD Position.
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate with a research proposal that fits one of the 8 research programmes of Leiden Law School. The Meijers PhD position is open for candidates inside and outside Leiden Law School. The position is available from 1 September 2024.
- Applicants must have a master degree in Law, Criminology, or another relevant master degree, with excellent grades. Special emphasis is placed on the grading of the thesis and other advanced, independent educational elements in addition to relevant methodology courses.
- Before applying, applicants establish contact with the envisaged supervisor (professor), appointed at Leiden Law School. The supervisor and the candidate come to an agreement regarding the supervision.
- The candidate attaches a letter of intent of the envisaged supervising professor, declaring his/her willingness to act as supervisor and indicating the envisaged second supervisor (compulsory).
- Applicants may apply for the PhD position before the accomplishment of their master degree. This only applies if the degree is expected to be achieved before the end of the academic year 2023-2024.
The selection procedure comprises a pre-application and full proposal stage. Closing date for pre-applications is 31 March 2024 (23.59 hrs.). On the basis of received applications, a selection will be made. Selected applicants will be requested to submit a full research proposal (deadline 1 June 2024). The selection committee invites selected candidates for an interview mid-June.

Terms and conditions
We offer a full-time position for 1,0 fte (38 hours per week). The appointment as a PhD candidate will be for a period of four years, initially for a period of one year with an extension of three years (after positive evaluation of progress and skills development), leading to the successful completion of a PhD thesis. The gross monthly salary is set on € 2.770 in the first year, increasing to € 3.539 in the final year. The appointment will be under the terms of the Dutch Universities Conditions of Employment.
