The Social, Economic and Organizational Psychology Unit of the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Leiden University (The Netherlands), is looking for an assistant professor.

Assistant Professor (Universitair Docent) (1,00 FTE)  

with 60% teaching time, 40% research time

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute  to the research program of the unit, in particular on the interdisciplinary study of cooperation and conflict within and between cultural groups;
  • Contribute to further developing  the research program of the unit of social and organizational psychology, and will make an effort to acquire external research funds;
  • Teaching different topics and curricula at the Bachelor and Master level (Social and Organizational Psychology), and supervise students at different stages of their education (first year tutorials, Bachelor research project, Master thesis, Professional internship);
  • Participate in administrative and/or service activities.

Selection Criteria
Candidates should have a proven track-record in the advanced use of experimental and computational research methodologies, and contributed to our understanding of human cooperation and conflict with international peer-reviewed publications in social psychology and related fields like behavioral economics and behavioral biology. Candidates should be familiar with software for programming and data-analysis like R, Python, O-Tree and SPSS, and meet the publication requirements set for Full Members of the national research network in social and organizational psychology (the Kurt Lewin Institute), or be able to meet these requirements in the near future.

Candidates  should have demonstrated their teaching abilities, and have experience with various types of teaching and supervision of students at different stages of their education. Candidates should meet the requirements set for a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or be able to meet these requirements in the near future.

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences comprises five institutes: Education and Child Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Cultural Anthropology & Development Sociology and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies. Terms and conditions
We offer a full-time position for 1 year, with the possibility of tenure thereafter Ideally, the starting date will be August 2022.  Salary range from 3,821.- to 5,943.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 11 or 12) in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities). Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
