Luris is looking for a Business Developer with background in Life Sciences (0,8/1,0 fte)
Key responsibilities
As a Business Developer at Luris you create and manage relationships between academics and external partners including managing the projects, relationships and intellectual property portfolios. You help academics to build partnerships with companies and institutions with the goal of delivering a social, commercial or financial impact from their research activities. Such partnerships may take the form of research collaborations, technology licenses, or entrepreneurial ventures. You look for opportunities within the Leiden academic community which can be further developed with companies, and then negotiate, define and manage the different relationships and objectives to deliver specific positive results.
You have a passion for life science and technology, as well as experience in intellectual property, relationship management/account management and commercial deal making. You are goal focused and take pride in facilitating stakeholders to work together in successful collaborations.
You are focused on completing deals, as well as maintaining your relationships and creating new opportunities. To be effective you are acutely aware of stakeholders' drivers. You liaise between them and appreciate the different worlds they come from. You understand the challenges which accompany technology and knowledge transfer from academia. You provide a window to the commercial world and help the two worlds to connect, and you can work efficiently and diligently within a supportive team environment. You will work closely in a dynamic and supportive team environment, with experience in entrepreneurship, deal making, life science technology, finance and grant development, legal.
Your profile
Your background:
- a Ph.D. or equivalent working experience in the life sciences field;
- experience in entrepreneurial finance and investing;
- experience in research related collaborative relationships and management;
- background in, or affinity with industry;
- working knowledge of Intellectual Property;
- relevant professional experience of at least three years; and
- proficient in English (written and spoken) and working knowledge in Dutch; non-native speakers should have the ability to acquire working knowledge of Dutch within a year.

What do we offer?
A fascinating job at the knowledge transfer office of an internationally renowned university. Appointment will be according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten). The initial appointment will be for a period of one year with the opportunity for a permanent position after positive evaluation of capabilities. The salary will be salary scale 12 CAO NU (gross minimum of € 4406 and gross maximum of € 5656 per month) based on qualifications and experience and on full-time employment. Leiden University offers a benefits package with holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3 %), training and career development.
