The section Cognitive Psychology of the institute Psychology of the Faculty Social and Behavioural Sciences is looking for a
The Research Assistant (RA) will work in the project “Visual signs as cognitive tools: Phylogeny and ontogeny”. This project studies the evolution of human symbolic cogniton, implementing an interdisciplinary approach informed by cognitive archaeology, comparative, and developmental psychology. The successful candidate will help set up and carry out studies in comparative psychology related to the perception and production of marks by great apes and humans, and will be involved in the presentation and publication of the results. The RA will be hosted by the Comparative Psychology and Affective Neuroscience Lab (CoPAN), led by Dr Mariska Kret, and will be supervised Dr Larissa Mendoza Straffon (PI). The successful candidate will have an academic background in (biological/ cognitive) archaeology, biology, or psychology. Applicants should have a demonstrable interest in the evolution of human cognition, an interdisciplinary disposition, and affinity working with great apes. Prior research experience is preferred. Highly desirable are technical skills, knowledge of multilevel statistics and related software (e.g. SPSS, R, Stata). English is a must, knowledge of Dutch and German is a plus.
The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences conducts high-quality research and offers a broad and disciplinary educational programme, focused on increasing our understanding of current developments in society. The faculty consists of five institutes: Centre for Science and Technology Studies, Cultural Anthropology and Developmental Sociology, Education and Child Studies, Political Science and Psychology. Terms and conditions
We offer a 1 year fixed term position from 1 September 2021 until 31 August 2022, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from € 2,656.- to € 3,548.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 8, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
