Secretary to the Program Board / Policy Officer Education

Key responsibilities
LUC offers an honor’s bachelor program in the Liberal Arts and Sciences focused on Global Challenges. We are a close-knit international and interdisciplinary community of highly motivated staff and students, in which English is the language of communication. LUC is part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs in The Hague.

The Program Board (PB) at LUC is responsible for decisions regarding the content and quality of LUC’s educational program, including its structure, coherence of the various elements, and the learning outcomes. The position offered combines the role of PB secretary who supports the administrative processes of the PB, and the role of policy officer, supporting the work of the Educational Director (ED). The person in this position will work closely together with a small team of program support staff under supervision of the ED, as well as with other support and academic staff.

The responsibilities:

  • Support and coordinate the meetings of the PB, and the meetings between PB and other staff (Program Council, Major Conveners): coordinate the PB meeting agenda and timelines, prepare minutes, follow-up on actions, organize and keep track of the annual decision-making cycle;
  • Coordinate with PB, ED, Board of Examiners, and Education coordinator regarding the course planning process, programmatic changes, regulations, and new courses, and inform other staff about these processes;
  • Coordinate the annual process for revising the OER (education and examination regulations).
  • Support the ED in the field of educational policy, also regarding educational policy from the Faculty or University: write or provide input for reports, memos, internal communication; support the implementation of policy decisions;
  • Support the ED with the organization and content of educational audits, accreditation, and quality management of the program. Organize relevant data, contribute to evaluations and the annual report, organize timelines and follow up on action points.

Selection criteria

  • A university of applied sciences (HBO) diploma, ideally in a relevant field;
  • An interest in, and experience with, educational policy and regulations in Higher Education in the Netherlands;
  • An organized and structured, pro-active attitude. Able to function well in an ambitious and fast-pace environment;
  • Able to quickly gain an overview and understanding of a subject, relate this to LUC’s situation and needs, and able to advise the relevant staff and bodies accordingly;
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely in Dutch and English, both spoken and written. Both Dutch and English fluency should be at C1 level;
  • Interested in actively contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Terms and conditions
The successful candidate will be part of an ambitious and dynamic team. The appointment is for one year with the possibility for a permanent appointment depending on performance and finances. The salary level ranges between € 2.920,- and € 4.012,- (scale 9 according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities), gross per month on the basis of a full-time appointment.
