The Faculty of Science, Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science, is looking for two

State of the art Network/System Architects

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop the research network and computing infrastructure of LIACS;
  • Interact with computer science researchers to introduce innovation to the LIACS computing landscape;
  • Support the scientific use of the LIACS computing facilities;
  • Interact with computing and systems specialists of the Faculty and the University.

Selection criteria

  • An MSc or BSc in Computer Science, or a related field (University or University of Applied Sciences/HBO);
  • Love for computers and a deep understanding of state of the art scientific computing facilities;
  • Ability to maintain and improve a diverse and complex computing infrastructure: among the applications are high-performance computing, machine learning, image processing, data science, security, robotics, and high-throughput networking;
  • Knowledge and experience of and/or interest in high-tech computing systems, appropriate programming skills;
  • Network skills: switches, routers, fibers, firewalls, routing protocols;
  • Communication and service oriented skills to support the users of the facilities (both students and researchers) and other technical staff at the university;
  • Knowledge of both Unix and Windows environments;
  • Service oriented, open minded, flexible thinking and communicative team player;
  • Willingness to be part of or lead a small team of specialist in a research environment;
  • Sufficient knowledge of English and Dutch.

The Faculty of Science is a world-class faculty where staff and students work together in a dynamic international environment. The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is diverse, ranging from mathematics, artificial intelligence, computer science, astronomy, physics, chemistry and bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) is the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Institute in the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. We offer courses at the Bachelor and Master of Science level in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, ICT in Business, Media Technology, and Bioinformatics. According to an independent research visitation, we are one of the foremost computer science departments of the Netherlands. We live and breathe computing. Terms and conditions 
We offer a full-time permanent position for initially one year. After a positive evaluation, the appointment will be extended to a regular position. Salary range from € 3.746,- to € 5.127,- gross per month (pay scale 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3 %), training and career development and sabbatical leave.
