Events and Communications Officer

Key responsibilities
In this role you are responsible for the organization of events and for the communication around events and the educational program at LUC. Considering the current pandemic, the focus of this role for the coming period will be on the development of online materials, and the development of creative, online or hybrid, alternatives for events.

You will be in charge of all events for Leiden University College The Hague (LUC), both online, and when possible offline. In the coming period, these are Graduation (July) and Introweek (August). There are additional events throughout the year, including information activities (for prospective students), alumni activities, lectures, events connected to our 10-year anniversary (year-round), and social events organized for and by LUC employees and students.

You are responsible for the communication around these events. Additionally, you are working together with other communication colleagues on web management, social media, newsletters, and other mailings (both internal and external) necessary for the programme. You will work very closely with the other team members and the team lead, and manage a student assistant and a group of student ambassadors.

You are representable and have excellent communication skills (speaking and writing) in both English and Dutch. You are skilled in working with online tools including social media, are very strong in planning and organizing, and you are able to keep an overview of projects and procedures. We are looking for a colleague with an eye for detail and a flexible, practical mentality who can work well in an international environment.

Selection criteria

  • Relevant training at least at HBO level;
  • You have experience in developing communication content and can work with different tools and activities;
  • Experience in organizing large-scale events (including online events);
  • You have a professional, customer-oriented, pro-active attitude, you are also stress resistant, accurate and you have a hands-on mentality;
  • Excellent command of the English and Dutch language;
  • Willingness to work outside regular working hours for events.

LUC started in 2010 as the international honors college of Leiden University and is part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA). The presence of both international students and international (academic) staff makes LUC a dynamic and challenging environment to work in.
