Project Assistant

Project description
The project assistant will be assigned to the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator research project "Food citizens? Collective food procurement in European cities: solidarity and diversity, skills and scale" (grant 724151, funded by the ERC). The project is hosted by the Leiden University lnstitute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS). More information about the project can be found here.

Key responsibilities
The project assistant works in close collaboration with the principal investigator, the postdoc and three PhDs, specifically with project management, organization and communication tasks. The key responsibilities are:

  • Assisting the principal investigator and the team in the planning and logistics of the project;
  • Monitoring and reporting on the financial aspects of the project;
  • Aids the PI in the ERC reporting of the project (project management and scientific reporting);
  • Supporting the PI and team in archiving the ethics documentation of the project, and with any updates of the data management plan;
  • Transcribing interviews and archives informed consent forms and data packages;
  • Organizing seminars, the project conference and the project winter school; 
  • Supports the logistics and dissemination of publications and project reports;
  • Liaises with the international scientific advisory board and organizes the advisory board meetings;
  • Coordinating and arranging secure(digital) facilities for data storage in collaboration with ICT services and the postdoc; 
  • Oganizes and coordinates research travel and relevant cost items for the team and of the advisory board (purchasing equipment, organizing the logistics of the final conference and project seminars, booking locations and tickets etc.);
  • Coordinating (with PI and team) updates and posts for the project website. 

Selection criteria

  • Project management experience in an academic environment;
  • Preferable Master degree;
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); fluency also in Dutch is preferable;
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a research team;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Our organisation
The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences comprises four institutes: education and child studies, political science, psychology and cultural anthropology & development sociology. The Faculty also includes the Centre for Science and Technology Studies. The Faculty is home to 5,000 students and 600 members of staff. Our teaching and research programmes cover diverse topics varying from adoption to political behaviour.

Terms and conditions
We offer a part-time position for one year, starting from 1 January 2020. The appointment may be extended for up to an additional 1,5 years, subject to need and satisfactory performance. The extension may also include an increase in FTE. Salary range from €2,579.- to €3,455.- gross per month based on a full-time appointment (pay scale 8, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
