The section LUC Academic staff of the Leiden University College The Hague of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is looking for a
Lecturer in the field of Environmental Economics within a Liberal Arts and Science Program (0,50 - 0.60 FTE)
LUC seeks to appoint a lecturer to join the core teaching and research staff within the Earth, Energy and Sustainability major. This major is part of our honours Liberal Arts & Sciences Bachelor’s program centered around ‘Global Challenges.’ The lecturer will be teaching courses in Environmental Economics as well as a multidisciplinary course on Sustainability. The lecturer will also supervise undergraduate theses within these themes, and have other tasks within the college. The tasks of the lecturer include:
- Contributing basic and specialist teaching to undergraduate students;
- Participating in and contributing to the social and academic life of LUC.
The lecturer should further show a clear affinity with the interdisciplinary Global Challenges foundation of our program, which is also linked to the international profile of The Hague as the ‘City of Peace, Justice, and Security’. In addition to the core of international faculty based at LUC itself, leading scholars from the other faculties of Leiden University participate in the program. LUC staff is able to take full advantage of being part of Leiden University while also contributing actively to the energetic and stimulating atmosphere of our college community in The Hague. Teaching at LUC is firmly rooted in the research activities of the academic staff.
- A PhD degree in Economics, or similar discipline, with teaching and research experience in environmental, resource, or sustainability economics (or related fields) within the discipline;
- Superior command of English and – if applicable - willingness to learn the Dutch language;
- Affinity with the concept of Liberal Arts & Sciences education at university level;
- Outstanding teaching skills, and a demonstrable interest in innovative teaching methods and approaches;
- Excellent social and team-building skills.
The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs offers academic education in the field of Public Administration, Safety and Security, and International Relations, as well as in-depth post-academic programmes for professionals. Terms and conditions
LUC The Hague offers a temporary position as lecturer. Appointment will be according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (cao Nederlandse Universiteiten) for a fixed period of one year starting ideally in August 2019. Extension is possible for a maximum of one year depending on performance and finances. Renewal after this period will not be possible. Due to the temporary nature of the appointment, you may be employed by Leiden University or by JobMotion, the University’s secondment agency (https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/jobmotion).
Salary range from €2709 to €4978 gross per month depending on experience (pay scale 10 to scale 11).
