The XIIth Annual Conference of LECTIO in 2023 will examine the foundation and first centuries of the University of Louvain as a unique crossroads of the transfer of texts, ideas, and images between Antiquity, Middle Ages, and Renaissance. It serves as a stepping stone for the celebrations of 600 years KU Leuven in 2025. Deadline: 15 march
This symposium (May 22) will explore topics such as the loss of and damage done to medieval manuscripts in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries through an interdisciplinary set of papers. Speakers will highlight projects aimed at identifying and rehabilitating damaged manuscripts and archives, and will explore topics such as wartime manuscript loss, theft, and the deliberate dismemberment of manuscripts for resale. Registration is free but necessary.
The 7th European Congress of Medieval Studies of the Fédération Internationale des Instituts d’Études Médiévales (FIDEM) will be organized by the Department of Arts, Media, and Philosophy of the University of Basel, Switzerland. Utrecht University is looking for two researchers (1 PhD candidate and 1 Postdoc) to form the team of the VIDI project Lettercraft and Epistolary Performance in Early Medieval Europe, 476–751 CE, granted to dr. Robert Flierman and running from 2023-2027. As a postdoc, you will work together with the Project Leader to develop and explore two new research tools for the study of lettercraft in early medieval Europe: (1) an index of early medieval Latin epistolary terminology (subproject 1); (2) and a new open access digital database of early medieval epistolary communication (subproject 2).
