Biografie
Dr. Jan De Bruyne is verbonden als universitair docent aan eLaw sinds februari 2022 (0,2 FTE). Hij is tevens onderzoeksexpert aan het KU Leuven Center for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) waar hij zich buigt over juridisch uitdagingen van artificiële intelligentie o.a. in het kader van het Kenniscentrum Data en Maatschappij. Hij is docent elektronisch contractenrecht binnen de KU Leuven LLM intellectuele eigendomsrechten en het ICT-recht en lid van Leuven.AI. Hij behaalde een doctoraat aan de Faculteit Recht en Criminologie van de Universiteit Gent in september 2018 over de aansprakelijkheid van certificeringsdiensten. Hij ontwikkelde een bijzonder interesse voor vraagstukken over de buitencontractuele aansprakelijkheid voor schade veroorzaakt door autonome systemen. Dit vertaalde zich in talrijke publicaties in boeken en (inter)nationale tijdschriften. Hij is de editor van volgende boeken “Autonome motorvoertuigen: een multidisciplinair onderzoek naar de maatschappelijke impact" (Vanden Broele, 2020), "Artificiële intelligentie en Maatschappij" (Gompel&Svacina, 2021) and "Artificial intelligence and the law" (Intersentia, 2021). Hij was een Visiting Fellow aan de TC Beirne School of Law (Brisbane, Queensland) en een Van Calker Fellow aan het Swiss Institute of Comparative Law. Doorheen zijn doctoraat was hij Visiting Fellow aan het Institute of European and Comparative Law van de Universiteit van Oxford en aan het Center for European Legal Studies van de Universiteit van Cambridge.
