Dr. Gunnar J. Weimann is gepromoveerd in Islamic Studies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam op een proefschrift over de toepassing van het islamitisch strafrecht in Noord-Nigeria. Na het afronden van zijn studie Arabisch en Frans aan de Universiteit van Leipzig, heeft hij gewerkt aan moslimverhalen over recht en geweld in Afrika en het Midden-Oosten.
