Mijn expertise ligt op het gebied van ontwikkelingsstoornissen, in het bijzonder autisme spectrum stoornissen. Mijn leeropdracht “autisme spectrum stoornissen: neurobiologie, neurocognitie en behandeling” combineer ik met mijn werk als bestuurder bij de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Autisme (NVA) & Balans en mijn positie als kinder- en jeugdpsychiater bij het Radboudumc en Karakter. Tevens ben ik als onderzoeker aangesteld binnen het Donders Instituut te Nijmegen.
Vanuit een achtergrond op gebied van neuro-imaging en genetica is mijn interesse de laatste jaren steeds meer uitgegaan naar interventie studies. Het is mijn intentie een brug te vormen tussen fundamenteel “discovery finding” onderzoek bij autisme en de dagelijkse klinische praktijk.

Onderzoek van
Op wetenschappelijk gebied heb ik nationale en internationale erkenning als expert op het gebied van ontwikkelingsstoornissen, in het bijzonder autisme spectrum stoornissen. Diverse wetenschappelijke samenwerkingen, zowel nationaal als internationaal vormen een basis voor een sterke wetenschappelijke positie de komende jaren. Nationale samenwerking bestaat met meerdere partijen, o.a. de FSW Universiteit Leiden, het UMC Utrecht. Internationaal werk ik samen op gebied van vitamine D onderzoek en autisme met the Department of Pediatric Neurology and Neurorehabilitation from the First Hospital of Jilin University, China en voor fundamenteel genetisch onderzoek met the Department of Human Genetics at UCLA, USA.
