The Faculty Board Humanities is looking for an:

Assessor (student member) Faculty Board, 25 hours per week


The Assessor is a member of the Faculty Board. The Assessor gives the perspective of a student in the Faculty Board. For this, the Assessor has a role in the decision-making at the highest level within the faculty, fitting within the strategy of the faculty and within the (sub)mandate given by the Dean, in order to assert a student interest in the decision-making.

Key responsibilities

The assessor:

  • participates as a board member in the weekly meetings of the Faculty Board and participates in policy and decision-making;
  • attends meetings of the Faculty Council, the Education Committee and the Academic Directors' Meeting, as well as various other committees and consultations with programmes and institutes within the faculty and university;
  • is involved in strategic consultations with regard to student affairs, co-participation, study associations, diversity & inclusion, job market orientation and education;
  • prepares and chairs governing meetings when necessary;
  • maintains contacts with students, study associations and the student members of the Faculty Council;
  • is accessible to students of the faculty for questions and complaints about faculty matters. Fulfils the role of Faculty Complaints Coordinator;
  • participates as a full member with portfolios with colleagues from other faculties within Leiden University (LAssO) and the Humanities Faculties in the Netherlands (SLG);
  • manages the "Assessor budget", which supports activities of study associations and students of the faculty;
  • supports board members of study associations, programme committees, programme boards and other active students, by organizing training meetings and financial sponsorship;
  • carries out various recruitment and marketing activities (organising, giving presentations, etc.);
  • is part of the faculty jury for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS);
  • organises the faculty introduction weeks (EL CID, HOP, OWL);
  • recruits and supports student members for various bodies such as the Education Committee and the Student Advisory Group Diversity & Inclusion.

Selection criteria

The successful candidate:

  • is a student at Leiden University, studying at one of the programmes of the Faculty of Humanities;
  • has a proactive, entrepreneurial attitude and is involved with the faculty;
  • is interested in governance processes, in particular those concerning education and student affairs;
  • has demonstrable administrative or other relevant experience, preferably within the Faculty of Humanities;
  • is good at organising and knows how to act flexibly;
  • has excellent communication and presentation skills and works well together;
  • is persuasive and stress resistant;
  • can network well and has a feeling for how an organisation works;
  • has a good command of Dutch and English in word and writing;
  • is available in the period July/August for onboarding.

Terms and conditions

The Assessor is appointed by the Executive Board for the period of the academic year, from 1 September 2022 to 1 September 2023. The scope is 25 hours per week. The net pay out is based on the standard amount for the basic grant for higher education mentioned in article 3.18 of the “wet Studiefinanciering” as of 1 September 2022. The amount is adjusted annually according to the change in the basic grant. The student also receives a gross monthly administrative contribution equal to 3.8/38 of the salary as mentioned in step 2 of salary scale 6 of the CAO-NU.
