Research Technician – tumor cell biology

Function description
The Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) is part of the Faculty of Science. LACDR is a leading institute that conducts fundamental and strategic scientific research in the field of innovative drug research.

The Cancer Drug Target Discovery Group of Prof. Dr. Erik Danen studies mechanisms of drug resistance and metastasis, the two major aspects of cancer mortality. Multi cell type 3D co-culture models are explored through perturbations of gene expression and function (CRISPR-Cas), biochemical analyses, “omics” approaches, and cutting edge (real time) microscopy. Key findings are followed by in vivo and clinical validation studies. A major current focus of the lab is on mechanical remodeling of the tumor microenvironment and tumor immune interactions.

Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will work in the Danen group - an international team of PhD students and postdocs - and interact with other academic researchers and technicians in the Drug Discovery and Safety Division of LACDR. He/she will support the group with organization and development of key research tools and technical support. Specific tasks include:

  • Advanced tissue culture and molecular cloning;
  • Creation and registration of cell banks and stocks;
  • Creation, maintenance and reporting of reagents stocks;
  • Managing laboratory equipment;
  • Conducting training and introduction of techniques to new employees and students.

Selection criteria

  • An HLO diploma in Biology and Medical Laboratory Research, Biochemistry, or related subject;
  • Cell/ tissue culture expertise required;
  • Molecular cloning expertise is preferred;
  • Expertise with viral transductions is preferred;
  • Strong analytical skills and an accurate work attitude;
  • A team player who likes working in a dynamic environment;
  • Ability to take responsibility for lab safety and organization;
  • Strong communication skills, proficiency in English.

Terms and conditions
A position with room for personal input, a pleasant working atmosphere in a creative environment with the possibility to work with the most modern equipment.In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, initially we offer a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal based on need, performance and funding. The salary range is from € 2,329.- to € 3,548.- gross per month (fulltime, scale 7 or 8, depending on education and experience).
