The Faculty of Science, Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science, is looking for  a Postdoctoral researcher Quantum Machine Learning (0,8 - 1 fte). 


Because of our strong interest in the area of Quantum Machine Learning, we are opening a post-doctoral position for highly motivated and well-qualified young researchers to pursue their scientific career in this novel and exciting discipline. The research is intended to focus on the development of novel quantum algorithms with applications in reinforcement learning and in other machine learning paradigms, intended for near-term and universal quantum computers. The start date is rather flexible and funding is available for up to 3 years.

Key responsibilities

  • Conducting novel and creative research in the field of quantum machine learning, and quantum computing in general.

Selection criteria

  • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, AI/Machine Learning or other related science;
  • Creative and energetic thinking and a high degree of motivation;
  • Team spirit/collaboration attitude preferred;
  • Research experience in theoretical computer science and/or quantum computation;
  • Strong publication record;
  • Solid background in mathematics and theoretical computer science is advantageous.

The successful candidate will highly benefit from the fantastic scientific environment at the University of Leiden, and from interactions with our collaborating groups in CWI Amsterdam (QuSoft), and Delft (QuTech).

Terms and conditions

Starting in the second half of 2018, we offer a full-time (80-100%) 2-year position, which may be extended to 3 years. Salary ranges from € 2640. - to € 4166.- gross per month for a full-time position as postdoc (pay scale 10 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Our individual choices model gives you some freedom to assemble your own set of terms and conditions. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
