Fields of interest

Other than rebellions and resistance, I am particularly interested in ancient and modern perceptions of the past; cross-cultural interactions; ethnic minorities; the deserts and oases of Egypt; and rock art/inscriptions.

PhD research

I am part of the research project "Persia and Babylonia: Creating a New Context for Understanding the Emergence of the First World Empire" (PI: Prof. Dr. Caroline Waerzeggers). My PhD research focuses on the Egyptian and Babylonian rebellions against the Achaemenid Empire. Of primary concern is the rebellions' social context: who were the people that rebelled, which regions in Egypt and Babylonia were particularly affected, why did these movements take place, what was their impact on Persian policy in the two satrapies, etc. The project aims to be completed by December 2020.
