Tomáš Cirhan is an External Researcher at the Institute of Political Science, Leiden University in The Netherlands. He studies new anti-establishment and populist parties, predominately in central-eastern Europe. Concretely, his research interests lie in the cross-national comparative analysis of anti-establishment political parties and their party organization.

Tomáš received his PhD from Leiden University in May 2021. A University of Aberdeen graduate, he completed his previous education in the United Kingdom. He first acquired an HNC in Social Sciences at Banff and Buchan College (Fraserburgh, United Kingdom). He holds a BA (Hons) in Applied Social Sciences from Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen, United Kingdom). Subsequently, he completed his university education at the University of Aberdeen (Aberdeen, United Kingdom), from which he graduated with commendation in September 2013 with an MSc in Globalization.

His master's dissertation research was a comparative study of differences in integration between Czech and Polish migrants in the United Kingdom, supervised by Dr. Christopher Kollmeyer. As a member of the Department of Sociology, he has been involved in teaching a Globalization interdisciplinary course as a postgraduate tutor. He holds a BA with honours from Robert Gordon University, where he completed research focused on standardization in workplaces and the application of McDonaldization theory, supervised by Dr. Donncha Maroon. In his PhD research supervised by Prof. Petr Kopecký and Dr. Maria Spirova, he focused primarily on party politics in Central and Eastern Europe. Tomáš focused on explaining the success of a new Czech anti-establishment party called ANO, adopting a party organizational approach to investigate the factors responsible for the repeated electoral success of this party.

His authored and co-authored articles were published in East European Politics and in the Czech Journal of Political Science. He has contributed a chapter to a book titled East Central Europe at a Glance: People-Cultures–Developments, and co-authored a chapter in a volume titled Party Leaders in Eastern Europe.
