Tirza van der Straaten is a PhD candidates in the Developmental and Educational psychology department of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
Tirza van der Straaten is a PhD student in the Developmental and Educational psychology unit of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
Tirza is a medical doctor who obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degree at the Leiden University Medical Center. Afterwards she has worked at the Department of Surgery of the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague.
Currently, Tirza is a PhD student interested in the long term effect of early detection and intervention of hearing loss on the social-emotional development of deaf and hard of hearing children (follow-up DECIBEL-study). She is supervised by Prof. dr. Carolien Rieffe from the department of developmental psychology and Prof. dr. ir. Johan Frijns from the department of otorhinolaryngology of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). This is a unique collaboration between the LUMC, the department of developmental psychology and the Dutch foundation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Child (NSDSK).
