I am involved as a postdoctoral researcher in the project Understanding questions. As a member of this project I investigate the prosody of non-fronted wh-questions and its role in the comprehension of these questions. More specifically, I investigate whether prosody marks the sentence type, whether the difference between languages that exhibit only one (Mandarin) or two strategies (French) for forming wh-questions can be attributed to their prosodic properties and whether the parser relies on prosodic cues in anticipating a non-fronted wh-phrase.
