Sharlene Gomes is an Assistant Professor of Governance of Sustainability at the Institute of Public Administration (Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs). She specializes in institutional analysis and participatory policy analysis methods to engage stakeholders. Thematically, her focus is on water and climate governance issues in cities.
Sharlene studies the institutional context of sustainability challenges concerning water and climate change in urban areas. She was a contributing author to the IPCC's 6th assessment report on climate change: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability (Chapter 4: Water). Her main interest is in the design of participatory methods to engage communities in policy processes with government stakeholders in cities. She has worked extensively on these topics in South Asia. Sharlene teaches in the course 'Governance of Biodiversity & Ecosystems' in the Governance of Sustainability Masters at Leiden University. Prior to joining Leiden University, she was a researcher at Delft University of Technology.
