Research

Dr. Sarah Schrader’s research focuses on the bioarchaeological reconstruction of daily activities. She uses musculoskeletal attachment sites as well as stable isotope analysis to elucidate physical activities and dietary practices in Ancient Nubia. More broadly, through the analysis of human bone, Dr. Schrader addresses questions of workload, social identity, and agency. Dr. Schrader is currently excavating the site of Abu Fatima, an Ancient Nubian cemetery (2,500-1,500 BCE), near the Third Cataract of the Nile.

Dr. Schrader is head of the Laboratory for Human Osteoarchaeology.

Teaching activities

Dr. Schrader teaches on the topics of osteoarchaeology and paleopathology. She is a point of contact for the MSc and PhD program in osteoarchaeology.

Curriculum vitae

Dr. Schrader received her PhD from Purdue University in 2013. She worked at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Notre Dame University before coming to Leiden in 2017.
